In order to operate in RVSM airspace operator’s aircraft must comply with Part 91 Appendix G. Simply stated the aircraft requirements are listed as follows:
A) Two independent altitude measurement systems capable of displaying aircraft altitude within 80 feet of one another.
B) One operational SSR altitude reporting Transponder.
C) One Altitude Alerting System capable of alerting flight crew members when the aircraft deviates+/- 300 feet from assigned altitude. For aircraft that are Type Certificated after
January 1,1997
the allowable deviation is +/- 200 feet.
D) One Automatic Altitude Control System capable of automatically controlling the aircraft to a reference pressure altitude within +/-65 feet under non-turbulent/ non-gust conditions.
E) TCAS II, Modification 7 is required in European RVSM airspace.
In-Production aircraft (new aircraft) are designed to meet RVSM standards as for In-Service aircraft (aircraft manufactured before RVSM standards) modification centers such as a Garrett Aviation or the manufacturer will follow applicable RVSM Service Bulletins to bring aircraft into RVSM compliance. The Service Bulletin will become part of the Data Package for RVSM approval.
